HALIFAX -- The most popular baby name in Nova Scotia in 2019 was Charlotte.
The name was given to 55 children in the province this year, while the names Jack and Owen were given to 51 each.
Rounding out the top 10 names for the year were Noah, Olivia, Benjamin, Liam, Amelia, Oliver and Emma, according to Nova Scotia's Registry of Vital Statistics.
The registry says there were 7,433 registered births this year in Nova Scotia as of Friday.
It says while the most popular names usually remain consistent year-to-year, a few new names are gaining popularity, such as Nora, Levi and Hudson.
Meantime, some older favourites are coming back, including Lucy and Samuel.
William was the top baby name for the province in 2018.
Nova Scotia began formally registering births on Aug. 1, 1864, and the most popular names that year were Mary and John.
