CHARLOTTETOWN -- The former high school of two young Prince Edward Island men who were shot to death on an Alberta highway on Thursday will hold a game of catch in their honour.
Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown will hold the game Monday to honour Mitch MacLean, 20, of Cornwall and Tanner Craswell, 22, of Charlottetown, the school's principal Kevin Whitrow said Saturday.
The game will begin right after classes end at 3:20 p.m., he said.
Whitrow, who is organizing the event, said he's not exactly sure what to expect, but believes hundreds of people could come out.
"That's what we're expecting that there will be a whole lot of people who bring a ball and a glove and kind of just play catch and remember... the guys."
Participants will have the opportunity to sign a guest book, said Whitrow.
He said it's been an emotional few days at the high school and in the community.
"These were boys that even if you didn't teach them, you knew them," said Whitrow, adding that it was Craswell's birthday on Thursday, the day he died. "Everybody is caught by the sheer tragedy of this."
Whitrow said he contacted MacLean's father and was given clearance to go ahead with the event, but wasn't able to reach Craswell's family.
A young Charlottetown woman, Shayna Conway, is the lone survivor of the shooting rampage in Alberta that resulted in the deaths of four people, including the two Island men.
It's believed a man forced a car carrying the four people off the road near Calgary and opened fire before turning the gun on himself.
