Donair Poutine Recipe

Serves four people.

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs of potatoes (We used P.E.I. potatoes)
  • 3 cups sharp cheddar (We used sour cream by Dairy Isle)
  • 1.5 lbs donair meat, sliced thin.
  • 1 cup of donair sauce (see recipe below)
  • ½ cup finely diced onion
  • ½ cup finely diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped green onion
  • sea salt to Taste

Directions:

  1. Rinse potatoes in cold water.
  2. Cut potatoes into long thin strips.
  3. Pre-cook potato strips in fryer at 350 degrees until golden brown and remove from fryer and set aside. When ready to serve, add the fries back to the fryer to crisp.
  4. In a frying pan, sauté donair meat until crispy.
  5. Season fries with sea salt and place on a cookie sheet.
  6. Sprinkle shredded sharp cheddar over top of fries.
  7. Place donair meat on top of the cheese.
  8. Place in an oven at 350 degrees until cheese starts to melt.
  9. Remove from oven and transfer to serving platter.
  10. Drizzle donair sauce over top and garnish with onions, tomatoes and finely chopped green onion

Donair Sauce

Ingredients

  • one 354 ml can evaporated milk
  • 2/3 cup of sugar
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar
  • .5 tsp garlic powder

Directions:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add milk and whisk in sugar until fully dissolved.
  2. Slowly whisk in the vinegar until it starts to thicken.
  3. Sprinkle in garlic powder and gently whisk to incorporate it.
  4. Allow to set in fridge for one hour
