The death of a 71-year-old woman whose body was found following a house fire in northern New Brunswick has been ruled a homicide.

Firefighters responded to a fire at the home on rue Melanson in Val-d’Amour Saturday morning. They found the body of a woman inside.

The RCMP were called to the scene around 8:45 a.m.

Police believe the woman was the victim of a homicide and that the fire was deliberately set.

The woman has been identified as Lucille Maltais, who lived in the home.

No arrests have been made.
