RCMP in northern New Brunswick have released more information about what they are calling a significant drug bust in the Bathurst area.

Officers seized a large quantity of marijuana and cannabis resin on rue Principale in Beresford last Wednesday.

As a result of the seizure, police executed search warrants at two other residences – one in Beresford and one in Rosehill-South Tetagouche. Officers seized another large quantity of marijuana at those locations.

"This is a significant seizure. Police seized 17 pounds of marijuana and nearly 40 pounds of hashish cannabis resin, as well as six rifles," says Insp. Marc Landry, of the Restigouche-Chaleur RCMP, in a statement released Monday.

He says the seizure stopped the hashish and potentially 18,000 marijuana joints from hitting the streets.

Two men were arrested in the bust.

Thomas Peter-Paul, 48, of Rosehill-South Tetagouche has been charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. He remains in custody and is due to appear in Bathurst Provincial court on August 18 for a bail hearing.

A 44-year-old man from Chamberlain Settlement was released on a promise to appear in Bathurst Provincial Court on October 24 to face drug-related charges.
