A stubborn fire has badly damaged a construction warehouse outside Fredericton.

“We got an alarm this morning at 2:30 and first arriving truck seen fire coming out of the end of the building,” says Chief Murray Crouse, of Upper Kingsclear Fire Department.

Crouse was one of more than 70 firefighters from 11 departments who attended the scene.

“As you can see, it's a big building,” says Crouse. “There was lots of fire and you need people to spell people off, so there wouldn't be that many working at one time, but lot of people have different jobs.”

The building housed Kings Construction, a contracting company that does commercial and institutional projects.

“There was stacks of plywood and they built furniture of course and that was all burning and it was down in behind, hard to get access through the siding,” says Crouse.

Fire crews spent the majority of the day on the scene.

“Plan for the day is we get it cooled down, no flare ups or anything, so we don't have to worry about it flaring up or catching anything else on fire,” says Crouse.

No one was in the warehouse at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

“King Construction has encountered a major setback, however, we would like to reassure our clients, suppliers, and subcontractors that we will be up and running as usual within a few days,” says owner Stephane Gallant.

There's no word yet on how the fire started.
