HALIFAX -- A former spokesman for Nova Scotia's premier is working with the Liberals again after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman in 2014.

Kyley Harris was fired by Premier Stephen McNeil after waiting four days to tell the government he was facing a charge.

Harris is now doing research in the Liberal caucus office as part of a contract position that runs until the end of December.

McNeil says Harris was offered the job because of his prior experience and skill set.

Harris was handed a conditional discharge last March that included nine months' probation and 30 hours of community service.

Court heard he struck a woman in the face during a domestic argument on May 9, 2014.

He was initially placed on administrative leave with pay following the incident, but fired a short time later by McNeil.
