Former Nova Scotia cabinet minister Russell MacKinnon pleaded guilty to a charge of breach of trust, which involved fraud.

The amount of taxpayers’ money involved was $10, 900.

Eight charges of uttering a forged document and one of fraud were dropped.

MacKinnon received an eight month sentence, consisting of four months house arrest and 4 months under curfew, in addition to one year of probation.

The guilty plea came on the fourth day of his trial at the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

MacKinnon had taken the stand yesterday and was expected to resume testifying this morning.

However, his lawyer Joel Pink, requested an adjournment when court resumed this morning.

The former Liberal MLA was charged with fraud over five thousand dollars, breach of trust and uttering forged documents.
