Four teens are due in court following an alleged home invasion in Halifax.

Police responded to a report of a break and enter in the 6000 block of Binney Street shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say three residents were in their apartment when four suspects armed with a firearm entered the residence and demanded cash and personal items.

The residents were not hurt and were able to call police after the suspects fled the scene in a car with the stolen items.

Officers spotted the car on Joseph Howe Drive and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection with Abbott Drive.

Traffic was tied up during the afternoon rush hour while police closed the southbound lanes of Joseph Howe Drive between Highway 102 and Mumford Road as they worked to arrest the suspects.

Three suspects were taken into custody, but a fourth suspect fled the scene on foot. He was caught by patrol officers, assisted by a K9 unit, following a short foot chase.

Police also recovered a firearm from the vehicle.

Three 17-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man from Dartmouth are facing charges of robbery, break and enter, disguise with intent, as well as numerous firearms offences and breach of probation charges.

The 17-year-olds will appear in youth court Friday while the 18-year-old is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court.
