The investigation into a fatal shooting in Halifax has led to the arrest of three people who now face drug charges.
Investigators have searched three homes within the last 36 hours, prompted by Friday's shooting death of 36-year-old Corey Duane Lucas of Halifax.
Police responded to a weapons call on Clifton Street around 8:40 p.m. Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene while a second man, also in his thirties, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
He has since been released.
In total, eight people have been arrested but only three have been charged, and none of the charges are directly related to Lucas' death.
So far no charges have been laid in connection to the homicide.
"At this point we haven't ruled anything out, so it is fair to say any of the people we dealt with could faces charges in connection with that homicide, but at this point we don't have enough evidence to lay those charges," says Const. Brian Palmeter.
Police say the first two searches took place around 5 a.m. Monday at homes on Willett Street in Halifax, where one person was arrested, and Kelly Point Drive in Prospect, where police arrested seven people.
Investigators seized a quantity of cocaine, marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia at the Kelly Point Drive location.
A third search took place around 3 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Layton Road but police say no one was arrested as a result of that search.
Nicholas Bernard MacLellan and Jessica Ann Desrochers, both 21-years-old, face charges of drug possession and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Dylan Peter Roach, 20, faces charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police say the trio was arrested at the Kelly Point Drive location. The remaining five people who were arrested have been released without charges.
