Halifax Regional Police are continuing to investigate a serious assault that sent a 24-year-old man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to a report of an injured man at an apartment building in the 6100 block of Lady Hammond Road shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.

Police say a number of people had been inside the apartment when a fight broke out and a man was struck in the head with an object.

The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man remains in hospital and that his condition is preventing officers from speaking with him.

On Monday, investigators interviewed three women who were at the party, but they were released without charges in relation to the investigation.

However, police say they were each charged on matters unrelated to the assault.

A 24-year-old woman was charged with two counts of breach of a recognizance while a second 24-year-old woman was charged with two counts of breaching of an undertaking. A 22-year-old woman accused of spitting on a police officer was charged with assaulting a police officer.

Police say the woman are all due to appear in court at a later date.

Police are still investigating the assault and say it isn’t considered a random act as they believe the people involved are known to one another.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
