The mental health of a former Pictou County teacher was the focus of testimony again on Wednesday at her trial on sex charges involving two former students.
Amy Hood, 39, is facing two counts of luring, one of sexual exploitation and one of sexual interference involving two teenage boys.
On Wednesday, members of Hood's family testified about how her behaviour changed drastically around the time of the alleged offences.
Her mother said Hood became disorganized, distracted, and obsessed with her cellphone, ignoring others around her.
The defence has admitted Hood did use her phone for sexting and sending lurid pictures to the victims.
“The issue before his honour Judge Atwood would be, of course, would be whether or not my client had a guilty mind at the time she committed the alleged offences,” said defence lawyer Joel Pink.
“Precedent is very significant in cases involving NCR, or not criminally responsible,” said Crown attorney Bill Gorman “There are a wealth of cases that have gone to the Supreme Court of Canada and to the Court of Appeal in the various provinces.”
The trial resumes on Thursday with a Crown expert who will provide an assessment of Hood's mental health from his perspective.
