DORCHESTER, N.B. -- Correctional Service Canada says an inmate has died at New Brunswick's Dorchester Penitentiary.
Spokesman Daniel Melanson says 54-year-old Robert Lionel Hatt was found unresponsive in his cell in the medium-security unit of the prison on Wednesday.
Melanson says prison staff immediately began CPR and called emergency services, but Hatt could not be resuscitated.
He says Hatt, who was from the Halifax area, was serving an indeterminate sentence for failure to comply with a probation order and assault with a weapon.
Melanson says Hatt's family has been informed and a review by prison officials of the circumstances is ongoing.
