At 87-years-old, Dolly Kerr volunteers her time to makes sure others in her peer group stay active and social.
“Mom has always volunteered her time and service to anybody who needed it in the community,” says Deborah Allen, Dolly’s daughter.
The former nurse is one of the more senior members of the Swinging 60s Fun and Fitness Group in Fredericton.
Over the last decade, she's been leading the twice a week exercise group for those over the age of 60.
“I've been a part of the group for 30 years,” says Dolly.
Dolly’s dedication to her peers does not go unnoticed.
“The girls all like her and she does a good job,” says Gertrude Saunders, group member.
“She's terrific, she's here every time, she never misses any time,” says Irene Saunders, group member.
In addition to her efforts with the fitness group, Dolly is a member of a local quilting group and raffles the quilts off in support of her church.
Married 61 years to Jack, the pair co-founded a cancer support group back in 1999, a group they are still active in.
“She's so faithful to everything, you know, she's always there, you can always count on her,” says Irene.
Dolly says volunteering is something she feels called to do.
“I’m just happy the girls are able to come out and enjoy the program and we do have lots of fun, we celebrate all the occasions like Halloween, we all dress up and have a lunch and we celebrate Christmas with a party,” says Dolly.
