Many people are occasional volunteers, but there are a few who turn helping others into a way of life like Doris MacKaracher.

Doris volunteers at the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre.

“She's a big part of the Saturday markets, so she comes on Friday and helps prep for the Saturday market,” says Rob MacNeish, with the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre. “She is kind of a greeter and runs the cash with Sandra.”

Doris is known for her generosity and positive personality.

“She brings an energy into the room, for sure, and any table she sits at, is going to be the happiest table at the centre,” says Rob.

Over the last several months, Doris has helped to supply the centre with food donations and items for their kitchen.

“I like to be able to help people, especially needy people, it just makes you feel good,” says Doris.

Her love of giving back drives Doris’ work ethic.

“She's the type of person who will show up in a snowstorm, ready and willing to work,” says Amanda Nickerson, with the market leadership program.

Congratulations to Doris MacKaracher, our Maritimer of the Week.

If you know someone deserving of our Maritimer of the Week award, we want to hear about it.
