It was a cold day for Maritimers on Saturday but on Sunday that’s all going to change as a weather system moves over all three provinces bringing with it snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain.
The accompanying warm temperatures are expected to make the situation more difficult to deal with for crews trying to clear roads.
The weather could also disrupt travel plans for some according to pilot, Bryan Mellon.
“I know there’s freezing rain in the forecast, and for airplanes, that’s not good,” he says. “So, we’ll see what happens in the morning and deal with it.”
Marie Andree Bolduc from NB Power says they’re ready for the storm.
“Trucks are stocked, equipment is hand,” she says. “We’re monitoring the situation.”
In the Halifax area, crews will be pre-salting the roads, but since there is rain in the forecast, it may be washed away.
“There’s a fair amount of frost on the ground right now,” says Winter Works Superintendent, Darrin Natolino. “So when we get wet snow, it tends to really stick to the asphalt and concrete so we get some of what we call ice pack.”
This will likely make for difficult driving conditions.
There are several weather warnings in effect for all three provinces throughout the day Sunday.
