A Moncton man has pleaded guilty to five counts of voyeurism and one count of possession of child pornography.
Jeffrey Adam Amos, 32, entered the pleas in Moncton provincial court this morning.
“I’m glad he’s actually owned up to the situation and pleaded guilty and let’s just hope the courts are hard on him,” says neighbour Marc Richardson.
The charges are connected to incidents at an unlicensed residential daycare operated by Amos’ wife in the city’s north end.
Police say the incidents started in February 2012.
Police started investigating Amos in October after receiving a complaint and seized computers and data storage equipment as part of the investigation.
The daycare at the centre of the case is now closed.
Neighbours say they were stunned to hear about what was happening just down the street.
“It’s really a shame these things happen around here,” says neighbour Marya Loyola. “We need to be careful with our kids.”
Amos was initially charged with two counts of making child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and two counts of voyeurism.
Six new charges were laid in the case earlier this week, including three new charges of making child pornography and three new charges of voyeurism.
The Crown is expected to withdraw the five other charges against Amos upon sentencing.
Amos waived his right to a trial. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 3.
“I think it’s the best thing that could happen because it’s going to be good for the people not to go to court and for the kids to be there,” says Loyola.
Victim impact statements could he presented from the families of the five children involved.
