A Moncton courtroom was packed on Thursday for the first appearance of Tyler Noel, the 18-year-old charged in the murder of Baylie Wylie.
Noel was charged with first-degree murder and arson in connection with the death of 18-year-old Baylee Wylie, who was found dead after a house fire in Moncton on Dec. 17.
Police described the incident as “extremely violent.”
Two other men who were arrested on the weekend also made court appearances.
Baylie Wylie’s family was at the law courts for Noel’s first appearance.
“It was difficult but something that we knew was going to happen,” said Angie Wylie, Baylie Wylie’s aunt.
It was a short appearance for Noel.
One that included an outburst from the teen, upset that somebody in the gallery, he says, was staring at him.
“Asking along the lines, basically for the person in my family to stop shaking his head,” said Amanda Wylie, Baylie Wylie’s mother. “An outburst in court, that alone is obviously not expected. Let alone, address my grieving family, and tell my family they have no right to shake their head at him, or stare at him.”
Noel is back in custody and will return to court February 15 to enter a plea.
Two men who were arrested at the same time as Noel were also in court.
Charges against Zachary Holden, 18, include accessory after the fact to murder.
Holden is back in court on January 22.
Bradley Bonnell, 20, is charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house.
A judge denied bail for Bonnell on Thursday.
“I’m glad they declined him getting bail,” adds Amanda Wylie.
A Canada-wide arrest warrant is still outstanding for Marissa Shepherd, 20, one of the three charged with first-degree murder, in a death police describe as violent.
“We know some information,” says Angie Wylie. “But we’re not going to discuss it because it may someway compromise the case.”
Police consider Shepherd dangerous and say she shouldn’t be approached.
