A 56-year-old New Brunswick woman is facing assault charges in connection with alleged incidents at a daycare in Memramcook.

The RCMP say they received complaints of alleged assaults at La Couvée de la Vallée daycare on Lavallée Road

Investigators allege staff used “inappropriate physical means” to discipline three children at the daycare and that one adult employed at the daycare was physically assaulted.

“In September 2014, the RCMP received a complaint from one of the employees of the daycare in Memramcook,” explains Sergeant Paul Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. “Reporting an assault had taken place on one of the employees, and inappropriate discipline occurring on some of the children in the daycare.”

Police say the alleged incidents happened between July and September. The daycare isn’t currently in operation.

The daycare operator, Celine Lang of Memramcook, has been charged with four counts of assault on children and one count of assault against an adult.

“All I can say right now is that the discipline being imposed on the children was totally inappropriate,” says Sergeant Ouellette. “It would have been physical.”

No medical attention was required for any of the alleged incidents.

The children involved range in age from one to five years old.

Parents say finding another daycare will be hard, especially one that you feel you can trust.

“I would have concerns about sending my kids to the next daycare,” says parent Robert Taylor.

Celine Lang is due to appear in Moncton provincial court on Feb. 11.

Police say they are still investigating and further charges haven’t been ruled out.
