A New Glasgow, N.S. man who thought he had lost a prized possession is breathing a sigh of relief after being reunited with the treasured silver cross.
Randy Royal says he and his twin sister, Sandra, had always shared a special bond. He was devastated when she passed away in October.
“For people that don’t understand, twins are very close, very, very close,” he explains.
To honour his sister and their connection, he had a small silver cross made into a necklace to hold some of her ashes. An inscription on the outside reads “my other half” and includes the date of her death.
Royal was left devastated again last month when the cross went missing.
“I tore my house apart and I even took the drains apart in the bathroom and I tore my van apart…but to no avail,” says Royal.
“And then God sent Paige, which was fantastic.”
Paige Beaudry works part time at a gas station in nearby Truro, N.S., where someone found the cross three weeks ago and turned it in to lost and found.
She only became aware of the cross on Friday and decided to spread the word in the hopes of finding its owner.
“I took a picture, put it on Instagram and Facebooked it,” says Beaudry. “I made the post public so everyone could see it and share it and get the word our as quick as possible.”
The word spread quickly and Royal eventually heard about the discovery. He got in contact with Beaudry and the pair met in Truro on Sunday.
Royal showed Beaudry photos of his sister, and she fought back tears as he was reunited with his treasured silver cross.
“Thank you so much. You’re a super person, that’s for sure,” Royal told an emotional Beaudry.
Royal also wants to thank the anonymous motorist who found the cross and turned it in. He says he is going to be more careful with the cross in the future.
