A 29-year-old woman is in hospital with serious injuries after she smashed into the back of a school bus near Head of Montague, P.E.I.
The RCMP responded to the collision around 7:50 a.m. Monday.
Witnesses told police that the school bus was stopped on the road to pick up children, with its red flashing lights activated and stop sign extended, when a car smashed into the back of it. The car, a blue Mazda 3, became lodged under the bus.
Montague Fire Service assisted in removing the car from under the bus and extracting the driver from the car.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say 11 school-aged children were on the bus at the time. No one on the bus was injured.
The students were transferred onto another school bus while the car was towed from the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police say it appears reduced visibility on the road due to the position of the sun may have been a contributing factor
