Police have expanded the search for a 61-year-old man reported missing in West Jeddore, N.S.

Wayne Leonard Baker’s wife was the last person to see him. She says he left their West Jeddore Road home before 9 a.m. Sunday with a sandwich and a bottle of water. She reported him missing the next day when he did not return.

Police say Baker enjoys the outdoors and is familiar with the area.

“Mr. Baker is an avid outdoorsman and does some work around his home from time to time,” said Cst. Mark Skinner of Nova Scotia RCMP. “After speaking to witnesses and people who know him, we still believe he is still in the general area.”

A ground search and rescue team has been assisting police search the area since Monday. A Department of Natural Resources helicopter joined the search Tuesday.

Volunteers, along with specially trained dogs, have joined the rescue efforts.

Police say there are no clear traces to Baker’s whereabouts. Volunteers remained on scene overnight to search for clues that may help lead them to Baker.

“We are looking at the typical Eastern Shore terrain. A lot of thick trees, rocks, and bogs,” said Skinner.

Baker is described as a white male with long, dark hair, as well as a moustache and goatee. He is five-foot-eight inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black sneakers, a ball cap and a green hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
