Police in Nova Scotia are investigating a rash of thefts from mailboxes in the Halifax area.

Halifax District RCMP say they are aware of seven mailboxes that were broken into in the area of Waterstone Run and Lucasville Road, near Hammonds Plains.

Halifax Regional Police, meanwhile, are investigating five mailbox thefts that occurred in their jurisdiction: four on Ketch Harbour Road and one in Bedford.

RCMP say Canada Post advised them on Wednesday that a number of mailboxes had been broken into over the previous eight days.

Police say it appears the culprits used vice grips to pull the tumbler mechanism out of the locks to gain entry into each of the mailboxes, before stealing the parcels inside.

Police ask anyone with information about these incidents to contact police, or to leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
