A retired fisherman from Bells Island, N.S. is $13.8 million richer after winning Wednesday's Lotto 6/49 draw.

The 78-year-old man walked into the Bridgewater Pharmasave Friday morning to check his ticket and was shocked to learn he had become a multi-millionaire.

The Pharmasave confirmed it validated a ticket worth $13.8 million Friday morning.

Atlantic Lottery has heard from a person who believes they have the winning ticket, but said the individual must visit the office in person to confirm and receive the cheque.

The winner’s brother told CTV Atlantic he hasn’t decided what he will do with the money, but people in Bridgewater were quick to share some ideas of what they would do with the jackpot.

“I’d pay off the mortgage and go on a big trip,” said one resident.

“I have a large family so I’d have fun playing Santa Claus,” said another.

Some residents admit they regret not buying a ticket for this week’s draw.

“I buy them every week, but I was working. I do homecare and I was late getting home and I said I’m not going to stop, but I bet I’ll get my ticket from now on,” said one lotto player.

Because the Bridgewater Pharmasave sold and validated the ticket, the store will receive a one per cent seller’s prize, which is roughly $138,000 in this case.
