It's a first-place finish that administrators at St. Francis Xavier University aren’t celebrating.

According to MacLean's Magazine, St. FX is the top party school in the country for the second year in a row. Other Maritime schools in the top 20 include Mount A, Acadia, University of New Brunswick and Dalhousie.

The results are based on what students told the magazine. Academic vice-president Kevin Wamsley says it could lead to inaccurate information.

“When we ranked number one in professors knowing the student's name, that's accurate,” Wamsley said. “The way you pose questions, which will determine the outcome and partying, isn't very clear.”

Students at St. FX are aware of the MacLean's rankings, but say they only show a partial picture of the social life here on campus.

Most say it's all about academic balance.

“All the students get along well while we’re partying” said student Jack Miles. “But we also get all our school work done, too.”

“I do my fair share (of partying), not going to lie,” said student Sarah Truffyn. “But it’s usually just Fridays and Saturdays.”

Others believe the ranking doesn't hurt the university's reputation.

“I feel like it does draw a different type of student,” said student Stacey Tinker. “But that shouldn't be too bad as long as they can hold to the standards of X.”

While X is at the top of the list, York University in Toronto is at the bottom. Students there report partying less than two hours a week.

The lowest ranked Maritime school is Cape Breton University.
