An 18-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly tried to shoot a 25-year-old man during a confrontation in Dartmouth.

Police responded to a report of a man waving a handgun on Ruben Court around 4 p.m. Monday.

The man was arrested following a brief foot chase. Police say he was found to be in possession of ammunition and drugs and officers also found a handgun nearby that he had allegedly dropped while fleeing the scene.

Investigators determined that the accused had pointed the gun at his alleged victim and tried to pull the trigger at least twice, but that the gun malfunctioned.

Police say the confrontation started when the sister of the alleged victim identified the accused as someone who had broken into her home in the 100 block of Kennedy Drive on Aug. 8.

A 20-year-old man who was present during the altercation is also accused of taking part in the home invasion and was arrested at the scene.

Police say their investigation into the home invasion also led to the arrest of a third suspect, a 30-year-old Dartmouth man, in the 100 block of Ruben Court Monday evening.

The 18-year-old man is facing numerous charges, including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, and robbery with a firearm, among others, in connection with the home invasion and altercation.

The 20-year-old man is facing several charges, including robbery with a firearm, uttering threats, assault with a weapon and pointing a firearm, among others, in connection with the home invasion.

The 30-year-old home invasion suspect is facing charges of robbery and breach of probation.
