A teen has been arrested after two people were shot in a Halifax community on Saturday.

Officers responded to a shooting at a barber shop on Titus Street in Fairview just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived on the scene they found a 41-year-old man suffering from a gun shot wound to his leg. He was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A 23-year-old man arrived at the hospital a short time later with a gun shot wound and police say he was the intended target of the shooting.

Police later determined the first man who had been shot was merely an innocent bystander, and an off-duty military police officer, who was visiting the area from Toronto.

Officers arrested the 18-year-old suspect without incident at an address on Albro Lake Road around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

He is currently in custody and is expected to appear in Halifax provincial court Tuesday to face charges in connection with the shooting.

Police say the shooting was not a random incident and the intended target and shooter knew each other.
