A 19-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an 82-year-old New Brunswick woman.
Neighbours noticed a television had been left on inside the woman’s Richmond Corner home for quite some time and a family member entered the home just after 9 a.m. Saturday.
“A family member had attended the residence to check on the female resident and discovered her deceased inside and called police,” says acting RCMP Sgt. Marty Van Dyke.
Police responded to the home on Route 555 where they discovered the body of Sarah Kennedy.
Officers arrested Kyle Edmund Scott later that afternoon and took him into custody. He appeared in Woodstock provincial court where he was charged with second-degree murder in Kennedy’s death on Sunday.
Police aren’t saying whether Scott and Kennedy knew each other but area residents say the victim had no enemies.
“She never hurt anybody. She didn’t deserved this,” says neighbour Marion Briand. “She was one of the best neighbours anybody could have. I always knew she was there and she knew I was here.”
Scott is scheduled to appear in Woodstock provincial court on Thursday to enter a plea.
An autopsy will be conducted Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
