Police have identified the victim in Monday's plane crash as Paul Oberman, a 53-year-old Toronto Business Executive.

Oberman was aboard the plane when it crashed in a remote frozen bog in Maine, close to the Quebec border, on Monday. He had been visiting his son, who attends university in Halifax, and was returning home in the small four-seat Diamond DA40 plane when it went down in a blizzard.

He was airlifted by a Canadian search and rescue aircraft and taken to a Quebec hospital. His body had been taken to Augusta to be examined.

The pilot, 31-year-old Ryan Isaac, also of Toronto, reported ice on the wings during his last transmission. The plane broke apart upon impact. Isaac walked away from the crash, but suffered a broken arm.

Rescue crews made their way through the snow to the crash site by snowmobile and snowshoe. They camped overnight Monday and arrived on scene Tuesday. Major Denis McGuire is the Officer in Charge at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center. He says crews located the crash site Tuesday night around 9:30.

"The difficulty was not too bad, other than the depth of the snow was a real challenge."

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the US National Transportation and Safety Board.
