The Trailer Park Boys are giving folks another reason to say cheers.
The hard-drinking boys from Sunnyvale have released the Liquormen’s Ol’ Dirty Canadian Whisky – distilled in Alberta and bottled by a Newfoundland company.
“They thought it might be a nice idea to have a product they use in the show that their fans could have access to,” said Peter McCreath, managing director of Dartmouth Spirits Inc.
The boys are just the latest on a long list of Canadians putting their name on an alcoholic drink.
Sam Roberts Band and Tom Green both have brands of beer, while Dan Akroyd and Wayne Gretzky have wines.
“This is what we call a co-branding,” said Dan Shaw, director of Dalhousie University’s Corporate Residency MBA program, “where you have a liquor company coming together with a media entity or brand and forming a new brand together.”
Shaw says co-branding makes for easy work.
“Typically this is a royalty deal and the trailer park boys would get 10 to 20 per cent of each bottle,” he said.
Newfoundland received the first batch this fall and sold out within a month.
Five NSLC locations received their first shipments on Thursday. By midday Saturday, only one location had the whisky in stock.
NSLC staff say customers have been calling from as far away as Texas.
“We'll do another 20,000(bottles) in late January, early February,” said McCreath. “We’ll keep producing them as long as people keep buying them.”
