An American man has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for smuggling images of children being sexually abused into Canada.

Shayne Clark, 31, of Philadelphia was arrested at the border crossing in St. Stephen on Oct. 13 after Canada Border Services agents searched his vehicle.

Police say the agents found a laptop containing the disturbing images in Clark’s car.

Clarkpleaded guilty to possessing and smuggling the images and was sentenced Wednesday in St. Stephen provincial court.

Police say his name will be added to the National Sex Offender Registry for a period of 10 years. He was also ordered to submit his DNA to the Offender DNA Data Bank.

Clarkis prohibited from attending any public area where children under the age of 16 could be present, as well as having any contact with persons under the age of 16 without supervision, and from accessing the Internet, for a period of 10 years.

Once released from jail, police say Clark will remain on probation for three years
