Entire groups of people across the Maritime are holding viewing parties as the United States presidential election votes are recorded.
Traditional American comfort food is on hand at many locations, despite a clear feeling of discomfort.
“We're a community space, so we figured a lot of people would find comfort in watching the election here,” said barista Shay George. “I think a lot of people are nervous even though we're not in the states.”
They're also creating cocktails with a twist. One of them is called "nasty woman" named after a debate interruption. Another is called “tine hands”.
“It's something that really like hit hard for (Trump) and he hasn't been able to really move past it,” said George.
The Boardroom Cafe is also holding a viewing party, accompanied by games based on political intrigue.
“Tammany Hall, which is sort of boss-tweed era New York where you are trying to be the mayor of New York and it's an election-based game,” said Boardroom Café general manager Kat Adams.
But for all the Canadians watching the American election so closely, it seems Americans want to watch us too. ABC News is live streaming from a brewery in Glace Bay.
“I think it's very interesting,” said craft brewery owner Bryan MacDonald. “I think it stems a lot from the Cape Breton if Trump Wins website and the spinoff that Cape Breton saw over the summer with the boost in tourism.:
A boost that depending on the outcome of tonight's election, may just keep on giving.
