Sunday brought messy weather to all three Maritime provinces.

A storm moved into the region and began with snowfall early in the morning. As temperatures warmed up the precipitation fell as ice pellets, freezing rain and later rain.

In Halifax alone, 200 trucks tackled the task of cleaning up according to Winter Operations Superintendent, Darrin Natolino.

“We’ll have some pushback that we’ll need to do throughout the course of the night,” he says. “So by that, I mean exposing the catch basins and getting streets widened right to the curb.”

At Halifax’s Stanfield International Airport, delays and cancellations piled up.

“I was supposed to leave at 12:05,” says passenger Therese Benoit. “Now, I have no idea..it looks like it’s cancelled altogether now.”

Those traveling to the Maritimes also had travel troubles. Emily Cowie is a Dalhousie student who was supposed to catch a flight from Ottawa to Halifax Sunday afternoon. Her flight was cancelled.

“Luckily my parents waited in Ottawa to know if I left or not,” she says.

Halifax’s overnight parking ban remains in effect until 6:00 a.m. Monday.

Marine Atlantic has also cancelled all ferry crossings to Newfoundland.

Temperatures are expected to continue to rise overnight and then cool off again on Monday.
