HALIFAX -- An abandoned cottage on McNabs Island at the mouth of Halifax Harbour is going to be burned down on Tuesday.
The Department of Natural Resources says the structure on the northwest end of the island is in poor condition and could pose a danger to people who visit the island in the summer.
The department says it is not one of the three historic homes that are found on the north end of the island.
The provincial department decided burning the building is the best solution because demolishing it by hand would be dangerous and mean transporting equipment to the island.
The 400 hectare island includes Fort McNab, which was built in the late 1800s and is now a national historic site.
