The 49th annual Christmas Daddies Telethon is set for Sunday, December 2, 2012 on CTV and CTV Two.

The telethon has raised over $27 million since its humble beginnings in 1964.

Last year alone, $726,000 was raised and 17,000 children from around the region had a brighter Christmas. Funds raised are distributed by The Salvation Army and are returned to the area in which they originated.

This annual Maritime tradition is hosted by CTV personalities and raises funds to provide toys, clothing and food to less fortunate children and their families during the holidays.

“The generosity of our viewers is overwhelming,” says Mike Elgie, vice-president and general manager of CTV Atlantic. “We could not have raised close to $27 million over the years without the many compassionate Maritimers who give so generously every year.“

Canada AM’s Beverly Thomson joins CTV anchors Steve Murphy, Starr Dobson and Bruce Frisko in Halifax, alongside colleagues Cindy Day, Maria Panopalis, Tina Simpkin, Jayson Baxter, Heidi Petracek and Paul Hollingsworth.

Cyril Lunney and Alyse Hand will host segments broadcast from Moncton, while Rick Grant will host in Sydney. The program will feature fabulous musical acts from around the region.

The Christmas Daddies Telethon is a long-running Maritime tradition and a volunteer effort of the staff of CTV, their family members and friends. CTV donates the air time and equipment to make the telethon possible.

“The Christmas Daddies Telethon is a cherished holiday tradition at Bell Aliant,” said Andrew Pothier, director of regional services at Bell Aliant. “Each year, hundreds of our employees and retirees volunteer on the phone accepting pledges that make a real difference across the provinces we serve. It’s wonderful to be part of something that brings joy to thousands of children.”

On Sunday, December 2nd viewers will see the combined Halifax, Moncton and Sydney telethon live on CTV from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and also from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on CTV Two.

This year, the telethon will be webcast at BellAliant.net and also available at atlantic.ctvnews.ca.
