A section of Nova Scotia’s Highway 103 is closed as the RCMP investigate a three-vehicle collision involving an ambulance.

Emergency crews responded to the collision in Middlewood, Lunenburg County around 2:15 p.m.

Police say it appears a westbound vehicle stopped on the road to make a left-hand turn when it was rear-ended by another westbound vehicle.

The impact of the collision caused the first vehicle to be thrown into the path of an ambulance in the oncoming lane.

The ambulance, which did not have a patient onboard, ended up in the ditch.

Police say the lone female occupants of the westbound cars were taken to hospital with what appear to be minor injuries.

The paramedics involved in the collision were taken to hospital for assessment as a precaution.

Police expect the highway to remain closed until approximately 4:30 p.m.
