The Nova Scotia provincial government released a plan to keep more young people in Nova Scotia by creating and promoting public service jobs.

“As we challenge others to create welcoming conditions in the workplace for our young people, government will also make changes that will make us more appealing to youth as an employer,” says Labi Kousoulis, Public Service Commission Minister.

As part of its plan, the government plans to inform high school and post-secondary students about potential career paths in public service, create more entry-level positions, develop internship and co-op programs and offer on-going mentorship and career counselling.

Laura Lee Langley, commissioner of the Public Service Commission says the public service offers many opportunities for young people.

“We understand some students are worried about getting their first job out of university, college or trade school,” says Ms. Langley. “They want to know there will be meaningful career options for them as they graduate.”

She hopes the government’s new strategy will help to alleviate these concerns and generate interest in public service jobs.
