A 51-year-old man is facing charges after a poppy donation can was stolen from a Tim Hortons in Halifax.

Police were called to the Barrington Street location around 3:40 p.m. Sunday. They say a man entered the coffee shop, took the donation poppy can, and left.

Police identified a suspect and arrested him around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Cunard and Gottingen streets.

George Allen Clayton of Halifax is facing charges of theft under $5,000, possession of property by crime under $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

Clayton is due to appear in Halifax provincial court on Thursday.
