Over 8,000 students from across the region converged on the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax for We Day Atlantic Friday.
The global event was started by brothers Craig and Mark Kielburger and aims to inspire young people to make positive changes in the world.
The day was filled with musical performances, motivational speakers, and lots of spirit.
“Today is cool, but what are they going to get out of it tomorrow? It just lifts your spirits and makes you want to go out and better yourself and better the world,” says Nova Scotia rapper Classified.
You can’t buy tickets to attend We Day, students had to earn their way into the event by showing leadership.
“We are currently raising funds to build a school in Kenya,” says student Maggie Morrison.
“We've also done many local projects which usually centre around homelessness in our community,” says student Andrew Willms.
Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield took the opportunity to inspire students to reach for the stars.
“Be intentional with your life, be intentional with your education, be intentional with your work. You can shape your own journey,” says Hadfield.
Students who attended the event said they were inspired to unite, to vote, to be leaders, and to care about others. They left promising to keep making a difference in their communities.
