The RCMP have arrested a Moncton man wanted in connection with a fatal crash involving a stolen pickup truck on New Year’s Day.

Police issued an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Ronald Fairweather on Thursday. They say he was apprehended at his home on Cedar Street around 2 p.m. Friday. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Fairweather is facing charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, possession of stolen property, failing to stop while being pursued by police and operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.

The charges come after police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Route 116 in Bass River at 4 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Police say a stolen pickup truck collided with another vehicle as it was pulling out of a driveway.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from Bass River, died at the scene while a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old man were critically injured.

Police say the name of the victim will not be released at the request of his family.
