A Moncton man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for aggravated assault has turned himself in to the RCMP.

Police say 29-year-old Jeffrey Ernest Curran was wanted in connection with an alleged assault that sent a 36-year-old man to hospital with stab wounds.

The incident is alleged to have taken place around 2 a.m. Thursday in the area of Robinson Street and Main Street in Moncton.

Curran turned himself in at the RCMP detachment Monday evening.

He was held in custody and appeared in Moncton provincial court Tuesday, where he was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation.

Curran is due back in court on June 3.
