FREDERICTON -- A byelection will be held Oct. 5 in the New Brunswick riding of Carleton to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of former premier David Alward.

Alward stepped down May 22 after being appointed Canada's consul general in Boston.

The Liberals, Progressive Conservatives and Green parties have already chosen their candidates, while the New Democrats have yet to schedule a nomination meeting.
