An 18-year-old man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught driving almost twice the speed limit on icy roads in Lagacéville, N.B.

The RCMP allege the teen was travelling at speeds up to 157 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Route 445. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.

Two 14-year-old passengers were in the vehicle at the time and police say the roads were icy.

The teen is facing charges of driving without due care and attention. He is due to appear in Miramichi provincial court on Feb. 16.

Police say a dangerous driving conviction for a newly-licensed driver will result in a suspension from driving for up to three years, a fine of at least $600 and increased insurance rates.
