BIBLE HILL, N.S. -- The Agridome on the grounds of the Nova Scotia Exhibition in Bible Hill is getting a new cover, after spending most of the winter open to the elements.
The October winds destroyed 1,860 square meters of plastic covering, with damage totaling $30,000.
“We just got up one morning after a heavy windstorm and one-third of the building was without a cover,” said Bruce Kennedy of the N.S. Provincial Exhibition Commission.
He says the costs were covered by insurance.
A local company donated the replacement material, which is made of dura-weave fabric, but complications arose after it was sent out west for fabrication and fitting.
“There was a lot of skepticism whether we were going to get covered up, cover off for five months,” said Kennedy.
A different company was hired to do the installation, which began Thursday.
“It’s a little tight-fitting, but it just takes a little time” said foreman Greg Paul. “We’ll get it down, inch by inch.”
There was minimal damage over the winter to the inside of the dome, which was stripped down to its bare pavement floor.
Kennedy says snow didn’t present much of a problem, either.
“Never had to touch it,” said Kennedy. “Snow came in, snow went out with Mother Nature. Maybe thanks to Cindy Day, we didn’t get a whole lot of snow.”
Kennedy says they hope to have the work completed by the end of next week. That will be just in time for the dome to host a big dog show next weekend.
The Agridome opened in 2003, and has hosted a large number of trade shows, dog shows, and indoor sporting events over the years.
