One man is dead after a van crashed through a guardrail on a highway in Broadway, Nova Scotia.
The van crossed over three lanes of highway before going through the guardrail and into the ditch.
Police aren’t sure how or why the crash happened. They also aren’t releasing the drivers name until his family has been notified.
Fire chief Joe Macdonald’s Barneys River department were some of the first responders on the scene.
“This is the second fatal accident this year, it happens far too often,” says Macdonald. “We’ve had 65 accidents to date over the last five years, this is the eleventh fatality that we’ve had.”
Last month Macdonald asked the government to twin the highway between Sutherlands River and Antigonish County. He’s still hoping it will happen.
“We can’t get the highway twinned tomorrow,” says Macdonald. “But we’re just asking for a plan for the future.”
Meanwhile police are investigating how the crash happened.
