A team that included members from across Canada shucked their way to setting a new Guinness World Record at the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival in Prince Edward Island.

Together they shucked 8,840 oysters in an hour.  The previous record of 8,472 had been set by a team in France.

“It was an incredibly exciting event enjoyed by everyone in attendance,” says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson. “The organizers and the team deserve this recognition for all the work they did to make it happen.”

This year marked the 50th anniversary of the festival.   The minister hopes the new world record will help raise the profile of the event.

“Congratulations to all the shuckers, organizers and volunteers that made this great event happen here at the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival,” says Henderson.
