CHARLOTTETOWN -- The P.E.I. government is spending $100,000 to support the growth of its oyster industry.
Fisheries Minister Alan McIsaac says the money will be given to the Prince Edward Island Shellfish Association.
McIsaac says the association is planning to improve shellfish beds across the province.
Prince Edward Island is the largest oyster producer in Atlantic Canada, employing more than 1,000 fishermen and aquaculturists.
In 2014, about 3.3 million kilograms of oysters were harvested with a landed value of $9.3 million.
