A Sydney family has been searching for their dog Jak since Monday, when he got on the loose on a trip to the groomers.

Jak’s owner, Shauna Kelly says she has gotten about 20 messages a day since creating a Facebook post asking for help from her hometown.

“So this text says,‘Hi, just a quick note to tell you people are praying for the pups return. I hope the fur baby comes home today. God bless.’ I have no idea who that person is,” Kelly says.

Kelly’s post includes a picture of Jak, and has been shared online thousands of times.

“It started off as personal, it was personal to us and we were devastated, devastated as a family,” she says. “The dog means a lot to us, but it became more than that because once I started sharing it on Facebook.”

Hundreds of people have been searching day and night for the four-year-old cockapoo. It’s a dog-lovers connection, that Kelly feels is why this search has taken on a life of its own.

“My heart aches for these people,” says searcher, Colette Madore. “I have a dog of my own and I can only imagine what they’re going through.”

Kelly says her children are desperately hoping for Jak’s return and have cried themselves to sleep every night since he went missing.

“I miss playing with him, that was fun,” says Kelly’s son, Bryden.

Local businesses in the Sydney community have started posting reminders for their costumers on social media urging them to keep an eye out for Jak.

Sightings of the pouch have given the Kellys hope as Jak has been spotted in the area between the 125 Highway and Mayflower Mall.

“I’m excited about sharing the final Facebook post saying that he's home,” Kelly says. “I think that's all that people want to see.”
