A 32-year-old man is facing three charges in connection with an ongoing investigation into prostitution activity in downtown Sydney.

Police say they have increased visibility and foot patrols and dedicated investigative resources after receiving complaints about prostitution in Sydney.

Curtis Matthew Rose of Sydney is charged with obtaining sexual services for consideration, receiving a material benefit from sexual services and procuring a person to offer or provide sexual services.

Rose was released on a promise to appear in Sydney provincial court on July 20.

Police say the charges are the first of their kind in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality under new laws introduced through Bill C-36, the Prostitution of Communities and Exploited Persons Act.
