Two 16-year-old boys are accused of speeding and evading police in a stolen vehicle.

Halifax District RCMP spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Prospect Road in Brookside, N.S. around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say the vehicle matched the description of one that had been stolen from a home on St. Margaret’s Bay Road in Timberlea, N.S. on Friday.

They say the driver tried to evade police by driving into a parking lot and then speeding away when approached.

Police later spotted the same vehicle speeding and driving erratically. Halifax Regional Police located the vehicle in the Bedford area and used stop sticks – a device that deflates tires - to disable the car.

The vehicle was found abandoned on the front lawn of a home on Pryor Street in Halifax and the teens were arrested nearby.

The driver is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while disqualified, and three counts of failing to comply with a sentence order.

The passenger is facing charges of obstruction and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both teens were due to appear in Halifax youth court Tuesday afternoon.
